Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at jed@halitimealaska if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Reservations can be made by contacting Captain Jed at jed@halitimealaska or by calling Jed at 406-239-8481. A deposit of 30% is required to secure your date.

The price includes:

  • Use of high-quality fishing gear (rods, reels, tackle)
  • Bait and lures
  • Fuel
  • Snacks, water, soft drinks

It does not include:

  • Alaska Fishing License and King Salmon Stamp (must be purchased separately)
  • Halibut Stamp. Every angler must purchase a Halibut Stamp on each day that halibut are caught and retained.  The cost per day is $30.
  • Gratuity for the crew (recommended 15-20%)
  • Alcoholic beverages. Hard alcohol is not recommended but if you want to bring it, please check in with Captain Jed ahead of time.  It is easy to get queasy on the water with too much booze. If you want alcohol we recommend beer, white wine or seltzer.
  • Fish processing/shipping (available through local processors in Ketchikan.)

We strongly recommend booking as far in advance as possible, especially if you are traveling during the peak season (June through August). Ketchikan is a popular destination, and our prime dates fill up quickly.

If you cancel 90 or more days prior to your trip, your deposit will be fully refunded. Cancellations made after that time will forfeit the deposit. However, the deposit can be used in full to rebook a charter on different dates. In the event of unsafe weather conditions, the captain may cancel the trip, and a full refund or rebooking will be offered.

Ketchikan is famous for its abundant waters. Depending on the season, we typically target:

  • King Salmon (Chinook)
  • Silver Salmon (Coho)
  • Halibut
  • Lingcod
  • Sablefish (Black Cod)
  • Various Rockfish

Will be fishing in Southeast Alaska Area 2C, which has implemented special regulations for charter vessels that are retaining halibut. Hali Time Alaska does have a 5-Angler Charter Halibut Permit (CHP) which allows its charter guests to fish for and retain halibut and Hali Time Alaska also participates in the GAF permit program.

  • Charter halibut fishing is closed on all Thursdays from June 18-September 10
  • Anglers are limited to retaining one fish (except GAF-see below)
  • There is a reverse slot limit in place so that anglers may only keep fish that are either 34” or less OR 80” or more (except GAF-see below)
  • Guided Angler Fish (GAF) permits may be purchased separately. GAF permits allow anglers to keep an additional halibut, regardless of size, and to also fish and retain halibut on Thursdays.  GAF permits cost $450 per fish retained.

We recommend bringing the following items:

  • Valid Alaska Fishing License and King Salmon Stamp: You must have these before boarding. You can purchase them online here or at local vendors.
  • Photo ID
  • Warm, layered clothing (temperatures can change quickly)
  • Rain gear (waterproof jacket and pants (or bibs))
  • Non-marking shoes or deck boots (Xtra Tuff)
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Camera
  • Extra food and drinks

The fishing regulations for Southeast Alaska Area 2C can be found here.

    • Non-Pegagic Slope Rockfish: One(1) per day

If you choose to keep your fish, we typically will drop your catch off at one of the local processors.  We will either meet the processor at the dock or drop off on the way through Ketchikan.  The processor will clean, filet, vacuum seal and freeze your fish.  They will also pack the fish in boxes that you can check on the airline.

Yes. We work closely with several local processing and shipping companies that can freeze, vacuum-seal, and ship your fish directly to your home. We can arrange a drop-off after your charter. You will be responsible for processing and shipping fees.

For more information or to book your adventure, please call us or check our website. Don't forget to check the weather forecast for Ketchikan before your trip! We look forward to seeing you at your scheduled fishing trip.

Our charters typically depart from Clover Pass. Specific instructions and a map to the meeting point will be provided upon booking confirmation.

Hali Time Alaska specializes in full-day charters.  A typical day starts between 6-6:30 am at a pre-arranged marina, typically at Clover Pass.  From there we will travel and it will depend on what species we are targeting, where the bite has been good and the timing and conditions of the tide.  We will try to be set up and fishing at least an hour before slack tide, so sometimes that dictates the start time for the day.  A typical charter day is between 8-10 hours.

Yes. Our charter vessel is equipped with a stand-up marine head (restroom).
